Toni was born in Ashhurst, a small rural town in the Manawatu, then moved to Whakatane in time to start High School.  Toni studied extramurally through Massey University gaining a Bachelor of Business Studies degree.

Toni and her husband Darrel live in the Whakatane suburb of Coastlands.  They have two adult children, and two grandchildren.  These days Toni likes to spend her spare time with a good book, researching genealogy, walking the local beaches and tracks, gardening, and holidaying with family.  In more recent years Toni and Darrel have travelled extensively around Europe meeting family members for the first time.

In her younger years Toni was an enthusiastic hockey and squash player.  Toni has always been involved in assisting with the management of educational, sporting or community organisations where either her or her children have been involved.  It is her belief that you get out of organisations more than what you put in.
